Create YOUR Italian Dream

‘Italy is a dream that keeps returning for the rest of your life’

Anna Akhmatova

It’s there instantly, the flash and widening of  the eyes, pupils dilate. The slight movement towards me almost imperceptible unless you watch for it. At the service station filling up with petrol, at the supermarket chatting to the person waiting behind me….everyone I meet!

It’s the recognition of a dream….an Italian Dream

‘We’re moving to Italy, we bought an old farm house at the foot of the Alps in Italy to renovate.’

It only takes those few words and the dreams are shared, a long held dream to travel the world, to see the sights and taste the life seen only in movies.

The myth of  “Under the Tuscan Sun” is savored, that gorgeous guy from the movie “Eat Pray Love” is drooled over  then compared to the reality of current partners who may not be quite so romantic.

What hope do our men have, really?

For as long as I can remember I wanted to travel the world.

As a child I dreamed of being a wanderer, a pirate princess in search of treasure, an explorer always flying high without a net. Dreaming big, is something we all do, mostly when we are children.

So when did we start to dream safely, or not at all?

I have a curious nature, I’m an art lover, gypsy soul, fascinated by people, an avid reader, adventure, challenge, new language, new people and new culture…I crave these things.

Who knows why, maybe just in my blood…my brother never left Australia and only left the state to see car races in Queensland….who knows?

I bet my Grandmother had a dream…my Great Grandmother (that’s her in the photo with all her Grandchildren including my Mum), what were her dreams?

italian dream

Now her great, great grand daughter is on her second passport and has seen more of the world than all of the women in my family…

Most only just dream. I want to be sure in my final years I didn’t say “I wish”, or “I should’ve done” no matter what the dream is I plan to fulfill it!

My Italian Dream will come true.

It’s the same for coming to Italy, it is my dream.

[Tweet “I am willing to risk, I want to learn, I want to see new lands and hear different languages. “]

I could never live happily in one place forever, the world is just too wonderful to miss.

You only ever get one life, so don’t be afraid to Dream Big and pursue your dream.

How about you, what is your Dream?

Could it be an Italian Dream?

I SO identify with that dream Lisa! LOVE the way your passion comes through! Can’t wait to hear more about your adventures in Italy! I have been in the italian alps several times and they are ruggedly beautiful! The rows of grapevines we saw were just gorgeous. It is a magical place and I don’t blame you for wanting to experience life there! Good for you to have the gutZ to go after your dream!

Hi Debbie, I loved your post for the group project! And my little boy saw the photo of the shed and said it looks like a dinosaur. The alps are just spectacular and in our first house we lived at the base of Mount Viso which some people say was the mountain used for the Paramount pictures logo. I remember the first time we flew over the Alps it was breathtaking, so vast . I love seeing our children becoming aware of the world outside the safety of home and school…I can’t wait to see the reaction when they are in a country where they don’t understand the language. They are just a joy. ciao lisa

What a fantastic dream you have to move to Italy and so happy for you that you are persuing it. I love your phrase ‘So when did we start to dream safely, or not at all?’ You are right, most of us have dreams but the size of them vary. My dream is to live on a boat traveling the beautiful islands around the world – hoping to get there.

Jackie what a wonderful dream, I am already enrolled! I think the size of the dream doesn’t matter (or if it comes true) just to have that dream that lights you up is a start. I would love your dream, wind in the hair, sea spray on the face….only trouble is I can’t swim so that is me out!
      Happy Sailing….
      ciao lisa

Thanks Lisa, even though our dream of Italy is so strong there is something special about living in the moment. I make sure I don’t miss the magic that is happening day to day around us…especially the funny things the kids say, how they laugh, Carina and I giggling in the kitchen as we send Daddy a text in the next room and hear him laugh….I think that is what unites us as bloggers, the wish to share, to reach out and connect. I know I have found this with your gorgeous family.
      ciao bella

Melissa I can just see us in our tutu’s wandering through Italia.
I have a little of my brothers ashes to sprinkle over the Grand Prix track at Monza. The rest are at the sixth turn patiently waiting for Albert Park to roar to life next Grand Prix. He never did get to use that passport he ordered… “Life is short…order dessert first” my Mum always told me!
      love Lisa

Ciao I’m Lisa

Together with my husband Sam we’ve renovated multiple homes in Australia and now on our second in Italy. This time it’s a medieval hamlet at the foot of the Alps in Piemonte. I love the simple life, photography and working from home with my cat on my lap.  Our mission? To help you create your Italian dream life!
