The Italian Dream – Come along to Veravo, Liguria

by Lisa Chiodo

Post image for The Italian Dream – Come along to Veravo, Liguria

Today for so many reasons I have Veravo on my mind. This little village holds many dreams and I thought I’d share a few images I created for myself.  Yes the last four images are of our house and as you can see it requires a bit of work to bring it to it’s former glory.

One thing that I love is the way the village is part of a group of villages belonging to the municipality of Castelbianco. There is Colletta, Oresine, and Vesallo as well as our Veravo. The oldest documented reference dates from 1202. The area is surrounded by cherry and olive groves. Exploring each will be a joy, I have taken a few trips via Google Earth and my imagination.

With each visit to your blog site, it takes my breath away. I sound like all your other viewers who post with such yearning comments to go where you are in Italy. Our hearts and souls long to be in this enchanting land that has captivated our total being. Lisa you and your family are living the dream that we all hold in our hearts. God bless you for doing what your heart and soul directs you to follow. The rest of us will find our way there in time. Yes, I would sacrifice electricity, my car, and all my possessions to follow my spirit to Liguria, northern Lucca, and the Gulf of Poets, where my favorite authors and poets shared their compelling dreams together in a place that filled them with utter inspiration for their life’s journey. Thank you for creating this place where the rest of us can continue to return to feast upon another image from your artful catalogue. Beautiful Italia stone and mortar forever casting a spell upon all whose blood is bewitched and bewildered by the land of Italy.

Linda i just wanted to thank you so much for the lovely way you expressed your thoughts. I was so overwhelmed I actually read your comment out to my Mum on the phone. She doesn’t really understand what a blog is or why I do it, yet when she heard your comment she finally understood. You not only gave me a gift but also one to my dearest Mum who is now struggling with the thought of us leaving Australia for good.

Dear Lisa, I guess there has not been any movement on your Australia house sale? Sorry if I am being nosy but while you are waiting are you somehow able to keep a hold on the Veravo house? I hope so!
You haven’t said much about this subject lately so if I am not being too forward maybe you will update your house news?

Apologies Caterina we were waiting for the sale to go unconditional before saying anything. We’ve had a few disappointments along the way and didn’t want this to go the same way. Never think you are being too forward, ask away and I will always try to answer.

Lisa, I can feel your dream getting closer and closer. It’s wonderful to be on the journey looking on. Being part of a such an ancient community is one of the feelings I most treasure about the time I spend in Italy. That sense of continuum. I love it as you do! And what beautiful, peaceful photos… Sogni d’oro, Jx

So close now we can taste it, funny how life totally changed once this became a plan instead of a dream. Now we imagine ourselves and our life to come. It is that ancient, rich history that I love. The depth of emotion and passion expressed so openly. Here’s to life!

The work will all be worth it one day Lisa, when you can look back and see what you achieved.

It will be nice to take that time out to reflect and then move into the next stage of our lives. Once the renovations are completed I always love the result and feel that sense of achievement, it is just when in the thick of the dust and chaos that the end seems hard to find.

This looks stunning – really looking forward to seeing the progress and end result

So exciting and something I would love to do – there is a particular farmhouse that is very run down not far from the via Emilia not far from Collechio that I would love to see restored. Roll on that lottery win!!
